-The Schwinn Bicycle Company was founded by mechanical engineer Ignaz Schwinnand partner Adolph Arnold in Chicago in 1895. It became the dominant manufacturer of American bicycles through most of the 20th century.

                        
-Schwinn introduces the bicycle balloon 26x2.125 tire in the spring of 1933 - two years later, it became the standard of the industry. "Ignaz Schwinn's balloon tire is the single biggest innovation in mountain bike technology." - Bike Magazine, May '95.
